question with NIC's
I going to connect two computers using NICs and crossover cable to my DSL which is connected to my older computer. It has only a RJ-11 connection, so no router/hub/switches/etc (so youl wont ask why i wont use them)
Will i need a internal 56k modem in my newer computer to receive the connection form the NIC or can i just leave the modem out? |

You won't need the modem if you're getting your connection through the other computer.

The DSL modem and NICs take over the function of the 56k modem, so no you won't need the modem in you configuration.
However, it's still a good idea to keep a modem in at least one of the machines in case your DSL is ever out and you need to establish a temporary dial up connection. |

I agree with Homie. I kept a modem in one of mine and downloaded Netzero for emergencies.
May your experience be as good as mine as I've not had to use it, but it's there if I do need it. Chas
