Netware Admin Password Changes
We run a Novell network with NO NT servers and Windows clients. I am in the process of preparing for an upgrade to Win200 clients but have come across a problem.
When we as administrators change a password for a user who has forgotten it (this happens a lot in a school) this change does not get replicated to the 2000 machines. Therefore an administrator must log on and remove the password for the user who can then logon with their new password. Is there a way to get Win2000 to accept the Novell password regardless of the 2000 password stored locally or to force the change to the NDS password to replicate to the 2000 machines at logon? Servers are Netware5 SP 6A, client is Novell 4.83 with patch Any comments, suggestions or solutions gratefully received. Thanks in advance |

This is what Novell told me:
Synchronize Windows NT/2000 Passwords You can synchronize your NetWare® and Windows* NT/2000* passwords when you start your workstations and log in. Start the workstation. When prompted, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to log in. Enter your NetWare username and password. (Conditional) If necessary, change other login parameters, such as tree, context, server, etc. Click OK. Enter your workstation username and password. Check the Change Your Windows NT/2000 Password to Match Your NetWare Password after a Successful Login check box. Click OK. |

The problem with this is that Windows asks you for your Old password. The reason it has been changed is that the users have forgotten it and hence cannot enter the old password so this approach does not work.
Thanks anyway. Any other suggestions? |
