Cab files

i have replaced my friends m/b but i need to partition the drive. How can i retain the cab files as his win98se files are all on the drive under c:\windows\options. is it just a case of burning them to a cdr and reloading after partitioning. i don't have partition software so was going to use fdisk which i am familiar with.
