Ok, I've got my network of 3 PCs all setup and running through my Linksys router. I can see files from each machine on the other machines and can move stuff from one shared directory to another.
I would like to share the HP 990CSE USB printer one one of my PCs with the other network PCs. I've set everything up on the WinXP machine where the printer is connected and I can see the printer on the WinME PC. When I attempt to print from the WinXP PC it appears to be doing everything except I don't get a response from the printer. What am I missing? BTW, I do have Norton Internet Security firewall working but I can see all the network PCs with no problem so I think it's configured correctly. |

In the printer properties on the computer that the printer is hooked to did you enable it as a shared printer?
Also you may have to take your printer set up disk and set it up as a local printer on each of the other computers. |

Printer is set to shared and drivers have been loaded on each of the other computers.
Still can't print. Both a local printer and a network printer show up on the other computers. |

If your conputer with the shared printer's network path is \\mycom\Hp , then on the other computer, you need to 'map' the LPT port to \\mycom\hp
If you've not done it, then even you've shared your printer, it's work not complete . Good luck ! |

No need to map the LPT port - just make sure the port you are trying to print to is the shared port (i.e. \\mypc\hp).
I would really recommend that you hook the printer up on the parallel port instead of the USB port and save the USB for other devices. Printers STILL work better on LPT than USB. The correct way to connect to the shared printer and install it is open Network Neighborhood (or My Network Places) and browse to the shared printer, right click on it, and select either Install or Connect. |

I not exactly sure what I did but I finally got the print to work just like I wanted. I can print from all three PCs just as though they each had a local printer.
Pretty neat stuff. Thanks for the suggestions. |
