simple networking problem?

ok. i have set up my LAN on a winXP Home Computer, it is linked to another computer running windows 98 SE using a crossover cable. i ran the network setup wizard on both computers, and for a brief period, it worked. on the WindowsXP computer, i can see and access both computers in the workgroup (computer1 and computer2), however, on the other computer (98se) when i go to network neighborhood, the only icon i see is "entire network" which brings up a "cannot browse network" error. i know the link is working, because i have network sharing working on both computer. ... also, i cannot play LAN games in Red Alert 2 (which may be because of the same problem). on both computers, i have IPX/SPX TCP/IP netBEUI and netBIOS installed on both computers (although i dont know settings for "media Type" or "Frame type" - these are left at default). so to put it short, the network works fully on one computer, but not at all on the other (it thinks its a standalone). could anyone help me out with my situation?

I would uninstall the protocols I was not using on that 98 machine, or at least go to the one I really want it to use and make sure it is set as default.
Check your logon type, windows, or client for microsoft, and your properties for the client for microsoft network.
All found by right clicking network neighborhood and properties; on that 98 machine!

thanks for the help guys (and gals?), but i found the answer by searching the forum for previous posts. i removed the QoS protocol/service from the gateway (XP) computer, and it magically started working.
