collisions
Can someone tell me how collisions are detected by hosts when they happen? I'm taking the Cisco Certified Network Associate course, and I'm curious as to how they are sensed, and data retransmitted. Could it be a voltage spike, or what. Thanks. Bill

Collisions are detected by a change in voltage on the line. I can't remember if it a spike on the line or a flattening out of voltage but once that is detected by the hosts onthe line, a re-transmission is attempted based upon a random time generated when the collision is detected.
