Any Webserver experts out there?

you have probably seen my other post on the forum, but now i have a new problem. my network is like below:

PHP Code:
INTERNET ----- computer1 ----------- computer2
             GATEWAY                  USER
             WindowsXP               Windows98 SE
ok. my problem is, i have a webserver running on computer2 (apache, mysql and PHP). i can reach it by going on to the old computer and typing "localhost" in IE. i can also get to it if i type computer2's LAN IP into IE on computer1 (that is "192.168.0.84"). however, i cannot get other people from outside of the lan to get to it. i only have a dial-up, and no domain, so i know i have to use IP addresses to reach it. i downloaded and set up dns2go, but if i run it on computer1, people cannot reach computer2 (where the webserver is), and if i run it on computer2(the server) i cannot get to it at all. I am only using winXP HOme so i dont know if what im asking is possible, but is it possible to get to computer2 web services by typing in "computer2.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is computer1's internet connection IP from computers out of the LAN?

if you need clarification, just ask. but thanks for reading

Hi arbz,

I'm not sure how this is done on the gateway software you're using, but just like on a router, you need to "open" port 80 (the HTTP web port) and route it to the internal IP of Computer 2. Since you're using a proxy, you're whole LAN has only one external WAN IP, but all of your systems have an internal LAN IP (192.168.0.x). But routing port 80 to Computer 2's IP, you're saying that anytime someone types in the WAN IP in a browser, it will get the info from Computer 2. Hope that helps.

Yep, you'll need COMPUTER1 to do what's called a "static NAT translation" to COMPUTER2. How to do this depends on what kind of firewall/routing software you have on COMPUTER1

um, i dont really have any router software apart from the stuff that (may be) installed on windows XP home. I use sygate personal firewall, which is software and probably no use. i did spot something when you right click on the net connection, and choose status, then properties, then advanced, then settings, and you can choose which services internet users can access on the network. im not sure if this is the correct thing, but i have typed computer2's ip address into the settings of the "HTTP server" item, but it still doesnt work. it tries to use ports 80 internal and 80 external. is this correct?

thanks for the replies
