Computer access with router.
I understand that with a router all three of my computers can access the internet at the same time using one IP thereby saving me $20 a month but can they access each other using the same NIC ?

What do you mean, access each other using the same NIC? Every computer must have a NIC that connects to the router. When you set everything up, not only can you share the Internet connection, but you can also share files between the computers.

Iasked the question poorly. Yes each computer has it's own NIC currently using a hub for cable access and you say I can access each other computer using a router instead of a hub. That is what I needed to know before buying the router.
Thanks very much Doc. for the information. |

Yes. All computers will be able to "see" each other and share files, printers, etc. |

i've got a LinkSys BE41... 4 port router from Newegg.com that i like a lot. you can access all of the settings from anywhere on the network with a password and it's simplistic setup with good reliability. good luck...

GerBa,
Shop by price for a 4-port router by DLink, Linksys, or Netgear. They all will work fine. I own the Netgear and am very satisfied btw, and have personally set up the DLink. Haven't tried a Linksys but they get a lot of good recommendations too. Any of those three brands will work just fine for you. Just get the one you can get the best deal on. |
