network
im tryin to network 2 winxp / i first put both of them on "automatic obtain ip" i ran the "set a homenetworkin stuff " both of them sucessfully compeled but only the second xp works / it could see my first and sec pc (i set it on "connect to primary pc for internet" ) I then run the home netwoek on the primary pc which i use to connect to the internet. when i click on the view workgroup i cant log on to it. i see nothin but an error message. same goes to the second pc i can see the sec pc and its share files but when i click on the primary pc , theres only error message.
im using a 5 port workgroup switch. im still using dial up k thanks for reading this . i know its kind of long |

Well, if you have 2 PCs you don't need to set them to Optain Automatic IP as they won't both be able to will they? (It obtains the IP from the other machine)
Set the one with the internet to 192.168.0.1 and the other to 192.168.0.2 Then set up the internet connection sharing with a proxy server (if you need any help up to now give me a shout) |

Set the IP address manually like fatboyjim said. Unless you have a DHCP server on that network, you won't be obtaining any valid local IP addresses any time soon.

You will then have to give the users "permissions" to be able to access the folders that you want to share.
