Question Help with Old Novell 4.1 Network System

I have an old Novell 4.1 Network Server that houses old account information that needs accessing occasionally. Since I upgraded my computer from Windows ME to Windows XP, one of the main programs I needed to get off the old server is not available. It worked fine under ME. Since XP upgrade I now get the message "Invalid start up directory-Check PIF file". I have looked at the shortcut I placed on my desktop and the properties for the file but don't know what I need to do to change/edit the PIF file.
I've never had any Novell training and relied heavily on the automation of ME & XP to search and connect everything for me. Can someone coach me through what I need to do? Any help will be appreciated. thanks

several things to look at. Did you upgrade to the home or pro version of XP? The home edition doesn't include the novell client.
you would need to use the client from novell.

If you are using the pro edition are you seeing the novell logon at boot-up and are you logging on to the server? If so, check the short-cut and see what drive the start-up directory is looking for.
then look in my computer and see if the drive letter that the short-cut is looking for is mapped and available.

I upgraded to home version of XP and downloaded the Novell Client which does allow me to long at startup. There are other documents on the network that I can pull files from. Only one program on the network appears to not be responding. In My Computer the network is showing as drive G:. The Program which is giving me the error message is also listed as G: under the shortcut properties. Any other suggestions as to what could be causing the error "invalid startup directory, check PIF file"? I am really stuck and really appreciate your reply and hope you may have another lead I can follow. Thanks

Is drive G: accessable? can you go to the drive letter and actully see files on the drive? if so,
I would look at the shortcut and see what file its trying to execute, then i would browse to the g: drive through my computer, find the file, and try to start the program from there.
if it runs, then right click on the file, select copy, then go to your desktop or wherever and right click and select paste shortcut.
