Connecting two networks together
Following on from this thread:Setting up a DSL network!!
How would you connect different networks together? Sorry, I'm new to networks, but the small stuff I can handle. I'm just getting into Win2000 etc. As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm hoping to be able to install DSL networks for companies over here in London. If they don't mind changing IP addresses on their existing LAN, how would it all connect up? Would this use a router or a bridge of some sort? As I've never dealt with large corporate LAN's before, I was also wondering if someone could explain how different servers sharing workload, or providing different services (printers, NET,authentication etc) are physically connected. Do they all just go into a Router? I would be very grateful if someone could take the time to help me out with this. Troubleshooter |

I know that a device called a bridge is used for that purpose, or perhaps a router is what you would use depending upon the distance and what type of circut will connect these two networks. A gateway which is like a router, and some routers can function as a gateway, is for connecting two dissimilar networks. Much will depend though on the characteristics of each network, location, and means of connecting them!
