Question DSL Networking & Router Setup

I am trying to hook up Ameritech's DSL connection from their Efficients 5360 ASDL modem, to a link sys BEFW11 Router. This s a Wi Fi Router.

I removed the Enternet 300 connection software from the PC, then Hooked a straight through cat-5 cable from the WAN port on the modem to the WAN connection on the router. I tried all four ports for the PC on the router and used a straight through cable from the PC to the ethernet port on the router. The PC was able to access the internet before I started this process so I know the NIC works.

I set up the router with PPOE, and entered the appropriate user ID, and password for the DSL connection and I have tried both 30 and 180 sec for the keep alive setting. I have the PC's on the LAN set up using DHCP and when I run Winipcfg on the PC I am getting a IP adddress in the range I should be getting it.

The problem is when I ask the router to connect and get a IP from Ameritech I cannot connect, no IP address is being given. I have even tried MAC cloning of the PC in the Routers setup but to no avail.

I believe the physical connection is OK, and the nic is configuration is OK, but I think there is something wrong with the router or something missing in its setup.

Linksys tried helping but still no dice

Any ideas anyone?

Steve

Try updating the router's firmware. Are you using the full "username@ameritech.net" login? Have you tried a different Cat-5 cable between the modem and router?
