PC & Mac LAN

Soon I'm going to be setting up a small network. There will be 3 computers to start. One of which is a Mac. It is going to be a wireless network. I'm very familiar with PC lans, but I've never set one up before that includes Macs. What will I need to do this? It is a new Mac running OS 10. The other PCs are running Windows 2000 and XP. They're all quite new machines.

Cowboy,
Check this site out: http://www.thursby.com/default.html

They market software called "DAVE" that allows you to hang a Mac on a Windows network. In Windows, you can see the Mac on the network, share files, and the Mac can print to any printer hosted by a pc. The nice thing is you can download the software for "evaluation" and see if it will do the job for you. I recently tried it out at the office as I needed the Mac to print to an HP laser printer on a Server 2000 network. They'll keep extending the evaluation period too if necessary if the eval "key" expires. I think the software is about $100 to $150 if I remember correctly.

I found the site through www.maccentral.com. They have a forum similar to this one but dedicated to all things mac. You might want to register there.

OS-X has somba built in, it should be all you need although i run Dave as it seems to work a bit better. If you ever upgrade to Jaguar, the native networking has been completely redone and setting up a Mac/Win network will be a snap. The only other thing you need is an airport card for the wireless aspect.

SMB works great on OSX.... My network has 3 macs and 3 pc's... to connect to your windows shares, all you need to do is go to GO>Connect to Server and type: smb://workgroup;compname/sharename/

All this will get much easier with jaguar, as mentioned, as jag adds the abillity for windows to see mac shares natively...
