internet connection sharing
I have been struggling with ICS for weeks. Once I had it working, had to reinstall W-98se on the host because of new video driver problem and haven't got it to work since. I have a D-Link DFE-910 10/100 network using a DSS-5+ Fast Ethernet Switch. Is there ay way to have more than one computer access the net thru one cable modem without using ICS? Should I get a hub ? I have friends that say all they did was hook up their hub to one port and the pcs to others and off they go. Pls help !!!!
The modem is a Motorola SurfModem SB3100. All systems use W98se Don |

Hi dondrd,
The best solution is by far a router. Just connect the modem to the router, and then each computer to the router's built-in switch, and you're set. Also, the router provides a good hardware firewall to prevent intrusion. You can find a good one from D-Link for < $50. Hope that helps. |

Yes a router ends all the BS of trying to keeps ICS straight. You don't have to have one both computers on to access the net if you are on the guest. It is just easier, faster and safer.
