I'm trying to set up a second pc through my Linksis BEFSR41 router. In the second pc, I installed a Com 10/100 NIC.
My questions are what settings need to be changed in the #1 pc and what should be the IP Auto configuration Address in WINIPCFG? When I type in the Router address to set up pc #2, it doesn't even try to open a page. Carl |

Are you using the DHCP to assign IPs or are you using static? You should just be able to config the router (give it a static local IP) and enter in your internet IP and other info. Then just hook up the machines. The BEFSR41 has a built in DHCP server so you can just set you PCs to use the DHCP.

HackinCowboy,
I use a dynamic IP and DHCP to assign address. The confusing thing is the IP Autoconfigure Address in WINIPCFG in pc #2. I don't recognize it. In pc #1 the IP address is the routers address, pc#2 is completely different. Keep in mind that I haven't done this before and get lost fast. Carl |

You probably have an IP address in the 169. range. This is what MS automatically assigns if you specify automatic and it can't find a DHCP server. What I would do is to assign the PC a fixed IP address in the IP range of the router, usually 192.168.1.(1-254). Then it should find the router. Once it finds the router, then change it back to autoconfigure.
You could also try releasing and renewing it using winipcfg which sometimes works. |

Thanks mairving, but now other probs rear their head. Any renewing/releasing in PC# 2 does not respond. I have to C+A+D to get out of it.
Now all of a sudden the connect light on the router only comes on at bootup and shutdown, otherwise no connection. I prolly really screwed something up somewhere. Oh well, its on my play machine. Guess I'll just keep diggin'. BTW, I removed the comports to free up IRQs. It put the NIC on IRQ3. Nothing else on it but the controller so should be ok. Carl |
