See if anyone can figure this one out?
I have 3 PCs running XP in my house they are all connected to a 4 port hub, port 1 cable modem, and the PCs in 2 3 4. At approx 4:30pm (4:25 - 4:40), 10:30pm (10:25 - 10:50), all the connections crap out and not one of the 3 PCs can get online for approx 1 minute or 2, everyday, mon - sun. Called my ISP they say its not them, screwed with the network card settings ("allow the computer to turn this device off to save power", etc.), Stopped all scheduled tasks, nothing. Cant figure out what the hell is going on. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas, they all have file sharing enabled, and its been driving me nuts for about 2 months now, cant really determine when it first started, kinda just started noticing it.

With that many computers, you need to be running a router, or at least an Auto Switch in place of the hub. THe hub has zero traffic managment ability and cannot prevent data collisions, Both the Router and the Auto Switch Control the bandwidth to each computer connected to it. So I would say that this is where your problem is.

Just a stab in the dark, but it could be DHCP assingning IP's and then at a the other time renewing the IP's

I hope that 4 port hub is a router cause has having three computers hooked to a cable modem with file sharing enabled is not a real good idea. Is your ISP giving you three IP Addresses?
If it is a router Jimmie is probably headed down the right road. |
