Well recently i went to a LAN party at one of my friends house and after it was over i came home and it's been on optain automatically (for my computer) for my house and his and when i came home i couldn't use internet from my own house eventhough i used it before with same settings and everything before and it won't work after i went to my friends house and used his internet then came home. Which has happened to me once before forcing me to format cus i couldn't fix it
Here's How My LAN at my house is setup: CABLE MODEM | Router \ network hub \ my computer *with my parents computer on one of the ports using the router which i'm using right now* and i've checked to see if internet works on my parents and it does... and i made sure my connections were good and everything... also i've tried doing ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew and /flushdns /registerdns any commands that might help.... but nothing worked.... i think its a problem with DHCP or something... but not sure... it says that "i should contact my adminstrator or ISP provider" in windows when i try to "repair" the connection. Btw I'm using a linksys router, with updated firmware and using Windows XP with an intel pro management 100+ 10/100 network card, my hub is a netgear 5 port 10/100 Surely someone has to have had this problem? Like the post from kendall says . . .
Most likely the gateway IP address changed. It's also possible that the DNS server addresses and NIC IP addresses changed. When the settings are manual, you cannot release and renew IP address, make sure that the NIC is accecpting automatic address assignments, otherwise, follow the following instructions.
Here's what I would do for an easy fix. Go to your parents PC(s) that have internet access, from a command window type ipconfig /all (if using NT 4/2000/XP) or winipcfg /all if using Windows 9x/ME. Copy information about the DNS servers (usually two), gateway, IP address of the NIC and subnet mask. The DNS servers, gateway, and subnet mask should be the same for your PC as what you see on theirs. Manually update these to be the same on your PC. For your NIC address, you can set the address to some adjacent address. For example, if their address is 192.168.0.41 and 192.168.0.152, then you could set yours to 192.168.0.80. It would probably be safe to pick a suffix between the two numbers on your parents PC's. So in this case, pick a number between 41 and 152. |
