HUB to Switch comm problem
Upgrading a network from a 3com HUB to a switch. When i connected all PCs, one was unable to communicate regardless of port used (even ports where other PCs were communicating). There was no light at the NIC.
When the HUB was placed back on the network the computer was again able to talk to the others. The one PC in question has a new 3COM 10/100 NIC What could cause this? Could bad cabling be the problem ? thanks |

Sounding like the 3COM nic dosen't like the switch.
Is it possible to swap out that nic for another? What's the make & model of switch? Last edited by MadMax; 08-20-2002 at 11:38 AM. |

I had customer with a similar problem. Put in a dell 48 port managed switch. his IBM RS6000 server with 2 3com nic's
wouldn't show a link. we were able to make it work by forcing the switch down to half duplex on those ports. But check the cable first and make sure all the pairs are working first, then try swapping the nic out.
