Tuf, you are too kind, but it would NOT have happened without your help as well as all the other mighty fine help that came to the rescue!
There is No doubt about it !! TwoRails... The Connected! PS: Yes, I have already reamed out.... errr, spoke with my DSL provider. In fact, I took the issue to the proverbial hilt by taking it all the way to the regional DSL director (or whatever his title was). It came down to the CAP thing. Breifly, to upgrade to a newer, external & router networkable connection it would have been more money per month but with a slower speed. Not acceptable to me. |

Hi Two Rails,
Glad you got it working!! So you entered the real DNS servers on the client as well, or did you enter the IP of the host computer as the DNS server? Does it still work if you get rid of the IP addresses on the client and just leave DHCP enabled? When I had ICS setup with a modem, I just gave the client a static IP and set up the host computers IP address as the DNS server and gateway on the client. Mind taking a couple more screen shots for us to see what's installed and binded for future reference? Once again, I'm glad everything's working for you now. |

Hi Floppyman,
You guys are too modest !! First, you need to edit your opening to, "Glad WE got it working!! Thanks!! "So you entered the real DNS servers on the client as well, or did you enter the IP of the host computer as the DNS server?" Yes, I entered the real DNS numbers in both. For the second part of the Q, the IP of the Host was entered into the Gateway info on the Client. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Does it still work if you get rid of the IP addresses on the client and just leave DHCP enabled?" I wasn't joking when I said this was Scary stuff... So I haven't played or experimented with anything. On the Host, however, the DHCP is greyed out, so I assume it's the same on the Client. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Mind taking a couple more screen shots for us to see what's installed and binded for future reference?" I'll take as many shots as you (guys) want!! In the attachment (if I do it right): left side: winipcfg shot Next box over is Network Properties, with the rest of the dropdown to it's right If anyone wants different shot(s), just let me know!! I'll be more than happy to post 'em!. TwoRails Last edited by TwoRails; 06-14-2008 at 12:05 PM. |

Good deal! Looks like we were so close yet so far before - couldn't see the forest for the trees due to the unusual configuration. Don't touch *anything* if it's working - just go to the next IP on the next client - 192.168.0.3 - and set it up the same way. Now, if you want to share any drives/folders and/or printers, just do it and you know it will work. Floppyman- I have had to use real DNS before with ICS - I've seen it where if you use static IP's on the clients the DNS won't transfer from the host properly. The key to getting it working here was using the host's private IP as the client's gateway. |

Hi glc!!
Thanks for all the help! In this case, I don't want to take it apart to see why it's working !! LOL (and I've been know to do that) Quote:
Also, I still have the All-in-One (HP OfficeJet K80xi -- really nice unit!) I got for her plugged into my office (host) box. We tried to print from her machine (client) and it wasn't found. It looks simple, just fill in the Share tab in the printers Properties page and go for it, I imagine. Got a lot to learn. Last week I couldn't spell Internet Connection Sharing..... Thanks! To set up the K80, share it (just the printer portion, not the fax) and then find it in Network Neighborhood on the other machine, right click it, select Install. If it doesn't cooperate, you may have to install it locally first then move it back, then just add a network port, browse to the share. That's how easy it is to network a printer. To send each other messages, just make sure Winpopup is installed and put it in your startup group to run minimized.

Hi glc,
Setting up the printer sounds easy enough. I checked Add/Remove and Winpopup is installed on this (host) box but doesn't come up. I checked msconfig.exe and I don't have anything unchecked that sounds even close. Can't find it in Disabled Startup group, nor anywhere else like System Tools, etc... I guess I just uninstall / reinstall it. Thanks again glc !! TwoRails |

Winpopup will not install a shortcut anywhere - you have to go find winpopup.exe and send a shortcut to it to your startup group.
