Problem with IIS (I think...)

I will be the first to admit I'm not very good with networking, or setting up servers. However I just got Visual Studio.NET and tried starting a new ASP.NET project and when I do I get this dialogue that says "http://localhost is unavailable". I have tried messing with IIS for a while and it still won't work.

Also when I go into IIS after attempting to create a new project it says my computer is unavailable... but then it reconnects and everything is fine...

The only time I have actually succeeded in creating a new ASP.NET project is when I specified "http://localhost" as the location, but then my project is named localhost.

If I specify something like "http://NewWebApp" it gives me an error that "http://NewWebApp" is not mapping to "c:\Inetpub\wwwroot." Which it's not, I know that... and I know in IIS, under "Web Sites," my default site is set to "http://127.0.0.1" which of course is localhost... I don't understand however why I can't specify "http://localhost/WebApp1."

I also am having trouble creating a New Web in Frontpage. It tells me that I don't have Frontpage extentions enabled, but I have already installed them (or at least I thought I installed them).

I can still create a web in IIS, however when I go to delete a web I get an error: "Cannot delete: Cannot read from the source file or disk." then a dialogue pops up: "Unexpected error 0x80070402 occured."

I have tried messing with my Internet connection settings and various permissions, but I still can't get it to work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

IIS is the windows thing that allows you to host an http server on your computer, correct?

I unfortunately know nothing about IIS, but if all you need to do is host an http server, then you can use Sambar Server, www.sambar.com, to host http pages on your computer.

I have used it, and it works fine.

Well... hosting isn't the problem... I can set that up fine. The problem I'm having is with creating new webs in frontpage, and creating new projects in VS.NET.

I was hoping someone might know if itr could be IIS related... I probably should have posted this in the Internet forums instead?

Probably the Internet of the Programming forum, as it seems to be programming related as well.
