Hi glc,
Yeah the new version is available.

It differs somewhat from PR2 in that the UI has changed slightly (I preferred the PR2 UI). There are other changes too but the most significant are due to the install of PR3.

On installation of PR3 it did not 'upgrade' PR2. Rather it saw PR2 purely as an older version of NS. I was warned that if I installed it, it would delete all the stuff in the PR2 folder. So I just decided to uninstall PR2 and start afresh with PR3. Things got a little weird after this. Here's what happened.....

a) When I first installed PR2 I created a folder on the root of d: (NT on my work box is on d: ) called 'PR2'. When I uninstalled PR2 I had to delete this folder manually, as sometimes happens when you uninstall a program....no problem there.

b) I created a new folder on the root of d: called 'PR3'. I then installed PR3 and saw that it didn't pick up my network mail settings like PR2 did. This I wasn't too impressed by so I set these up manually. Again no real problem.....just not expected, that's all. Everything worked etc....

c) I went browing d: looking for something and I noticed that the PR2 folder had re-appeared. I deleted it and went back into PR3 some time later. I couldn't connect to anything. I checked the settings and they were all unconfigured. So I re-configured these...again.....and BOOM...the PR2 folder had re-appeared again....and again it had all my user info and the cache etc in it. I couldn't find the equivalent of these in my PR3 folder.

d) Having spent so much time running around in circles I decided to leave this 'phantom' PR2 folder intact. PR3 runs like a charm but I'm not 100% happy as to why it needs the PR2 folder and its' info (which I had deleted).

e) PR3 did not copy my plugins either from 4.75 as I hoped it would. I had to manually do this so as sites using flash etc would load and run.

Having said all that I may re-ghost my PC on Monday and start afresh AGAIN....but this time with PR3. I'll be interested to see if the same thing happens. I doubt it but you never know....LOL.

PR3 is very quick and the added features are excellent too. This will be the last PR before the it's officially released! There may be patched to follow but I like it a lot.

Any of you guys who have 'strayed from the NS path' should REALLY check it out! Read the spec on the Netscape site. Personally I can't wait for the official release. All the 'bugs' I mentioned above are probably due to PR3 being betaware. But it's still on my Christmas list .

Yours

Has NS or Outlook ever ironed out the problem with NS recognizing Outlook Express Rich Text format?
I have to Plain Text format a number of NS'ers. I can read their Rich Text, but they can't read mine.
We just set it up to Plain Text each other.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that Max. M$ makes things that only work in their software on purpose. Especially as it pertains to Netscape because Netscape sued them awhile back. It's no coincidence that the instability of 4.x Netscapes in Windows has evolved since Netscape sued M$ over browser integration.
