In the Microsoft NT4 view of the world each Domain consists of just one PDC, and possibly a series of BDC's or member Servers.
These 3 server classes still exist in Win 2K Server, but is the NT model carried forward: i.e One PDC per domain to host the user accounts database? |

Yes, PDCs is ever presence in Windows 2000 network, because what it does is to check for authorised users who log-on to the domain.
In fact, in Windows 2000 Active Directory Network, you can have 2 PDC existing at different domain at the same time. The second one acts as a 'spare tyre'. The beauty of the PDC in Windows 2000, is that you are able to move it's 'role' to another simply by a 'click ' or two, to another, if it fails. It's 'mobile'

DC Promo, right.
But, just to clarify, there only one PDC "roled" computer at any one time in a single domain. If there are two domains, then two PDC's, one for each domain and so on. Basically it mirrors the NT4.0 view of the world, right ? |
