Question Starband without Winproxy

I am illiterate when it comes to networking so if a few of you Gurus could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.
I have Starband internet service.

Isn't it possible to share your internet connection without WinProxy?

Also, on Starbands site they say:
Note: Networking the StarBand service via a router or other hardware device connected directly to the StarBand satellite modem is expressly forbidden. A Windows-based PC running the StarBand software must be the interface with the StarBand satellite modem as it converts Internet requests into a protocol optimized for satellite-based Internet connectivity.

Does this mean I have to use a hub?

I also would like to know what OS you would recommend for the computer connected to the satellite modem: Win98SE (yuck), Win 2k Pro, or Win XP Pro. I have at least one license for all three of these OS'es

Thanks in advance for all your help!

I really don't understand what a router has to do with the equation, but anyway since you have at least WIN98SE you can run ICS. PC hooked to modem would be gateway and will need a second NIC. Put a NIC in second PC and use a crossover CAT5 cable to connect the two.

I have never used ICS, but there are several networking types here that can help if you run into problems with ICS. Also they may shed some light into why a router cain't be used.

they check your connection and if they find anything but there software, they will shut it down for you.

Correct - you must use their Winproxy software. You have to connect the "modem" to your computer and get it working standalone - then you need to install a NIC (Ethernet card) in your computer and all others you want to network, connect them all to a hub, and install/configure Winproxy.
