A network cable is unplugged?????
i have 2 pc's so i decided to network them so i installed network cards and used a cross-over cable. But when they boot up it says "A Network Cable is Unplugged" then it goes away and keeps coming back?
both r running WinXP Pro with same cards |

This error is quite common and does not necesarily mean the cable is unplugged.
Things to try: Check tcp/ip settings. Not sure, but w/ a crossover I think you need to manually set ip address. Check your drivers. You say it goes away and comes back? Try pinging the other computer both when the message is there and when it is not there. Ping 127.0.0.1, this is the localhost ip address, and pinging it will tell u if your network card is working. At least thats what I've heard, not sure just why. Swap the cable out if you have access to another one, try hooking it up to an existing network, hoook them to a hub w/ straight cable, or anything you can do to make sure its not a cabling problem. |
