Wireless network problems
Ok so I convinced the powers that be to buy a wireless access point.
So I have connected the access point into the network using the cross over cable provided. Lights for power, LAN and wireless are all on. I have gone into the configuration utility and set the ip address of the access point as 192.168.13.100 (this doesn't conflict with any other computer). Ok now to the wireless adapters. I have a usb wireless adapter connected to my pc (the direct ethernet connection unplugged). Question is to get access to the network and the internet what settings do I need to use? For the fixed network my pc uses: ip: 192.168.13.54 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.13.1 (this is the ip of the computer connected to the dsl router). DNS servers are set as 158.43.240.4 and 158.43.240.3. When I set the tcp/ip settings the same for the wireless network as the fixed network I cannot get access to any computer on the network or the internet. Can anyone point out where I am going wrong? Cheers DJ |

Have you completely reviewed the WAP and wireless NIC setups? Same SSID, same channel, etc.? How is the signal strength?

At present I only have one wireless adapter so there shouldn't be any conflicts with SSID. I'll check the channel but I'm sure I've been getting "Excellent" signal strength.

Right, but the SSID has to be the SAME on the WAP and the NIC. For now, is MAC and WEP security turned off on both devices?

Ok checked it - windows XP does it automatically - and it has the correct SSID. Yes MAC and WEP is turned off.

Install NetBEUI on the machine with the wireless card and one of the other machines - can you then access the other machine? If so, it's strictly a TCP/IP issue, if not, it's a wireless configuration issue.
