I have a ASUS P5A-B mobo that I added a USB PCI card to, in order to connect a Linksys wireless usb adapter. (The Asus is too old to have a USB port). The other PC has a Linksys wireless router (BEFW11S4) wired to it. I have installed the usb adapter several times and it runs fine.
The problem is that once I reboot, I get an exclamation mark for the usb adapter in Device Manager (Win98 on both machines). Like it cannot find the adapter anymore. Never says there is a conflict. Sometimes it is a code 8 and sometimes a code 10. I have downloaded the latest driver for the adapter. I end up having to uninstall the adapter software, reboot, connect the usb adapter and reconfigure the protocols to get it to work. ANd then reboot again. What a pain. One time the error message in device manager listed several .vxd files not found so I wonder if the driver is getting loaded properly. Hope this is enough info to get you started. Maybe I should put the USB adaptor on the other PC? It has an Epox 8KHA+ mobo. One PC is downstairs and the other is upstairs and the network runs fine (when it works). Ken |

What Operating System is on the computer with the P5A-B mobo?
I don't know what kind of bios support to expect from it since the board predates USB. The newest bios I could find is version 1013. Are you running it? I found it here: Link |

I have updated the BIOS and downloaded all of the windows 98 updates with no luck. After spending HOURS on this problem I've decided to buy the PCI network wireless card and try that. The heck with trying to get USB to work!
Thanks for all of the help guys. Happy New year! Ken |
