1 of 4 workgro PCs FUBAR

Installed a new harddrive and reloaded XP Pro. It's been several weeks and now I realize I am unable to move any large files to this PC; Other XP and 2K PCs can move the desired folder/file.

From this PC I can browse the network and internet, log in to remote workgroup PCs, browse their directories, and move small files (~1MB) to this XP PC.

An attempt to download anything much bigger than 1MB, results in loss of network connectivity to entire network and internet. Get an error message of

Error Copying File or Folder

Cannot copy (file name): The specified network name is no longer available.

All other PCs then lose internet access and I must reboot core eqpt (cable modem, router, and switch)

Uninstalled NAV, tried new NIC and switch port, disco'd router, reinstalled protocos and services. modified irpstacksize. no luck!!

I am on vacation and don't want to drive to work to get the sniffer. Any ideas?

Bad RJ45 cable?? Sometimes that clip that snaps it in is too loose to hold it tight. I bend them out sometimes if I can without breaking them so they snap in there more securely. Or just the pins are getting bad in there and a whole new cable may be in order. At least it is cheap and even if not the prob can not hurt.

Placed known-good patch cord directly between PC and switch; still no good. I believe this problem to be a TCP (layer 4) issue.
