Boom network access problem!?!

Hi guys/gals

i have managed to network my desktop and laptop, both running Windows XP PRO. When i open the workgroup i see both machines there. When i try to access the desktop from my laptop it asks for a passwork.. The wierd thing is that a dialogue box appears with the username as DESKTOP/guest (which is greyed out) and asks for a passwork. when i enter a password is says something like password not recognised see administrator for access. on both machines the guest account is disabled and when i enable it and then try to access the machines it says i do not have the access rights for this operation. then same thing happens when i try to access the laptop from the desktop..

please can anyone tell me where i am going wrong and how i can fix this problem

thanks in advance
waks.

You must have an account on each machine that corresponds to the account (same name and password) of the other machine.
Guest will work as well as any if activated on both machines.
