Networking Question
Hey . im gona get cable internet soon. Im gona have my dad run wire throughtout the house for 3 pcs and my xbox. I have 1 pc upstairs. It would be more then 100 feet. Will the distance effect speed? What wire should i use? Cat5 or Cat5e? Also where can i get cheap wire preferably in bulk and the connectors or just premade wires. Thanx

100' using CAT5 is fine. I do contracting work for a large corp. that has approx. 2500 runs of CAT5 over 300'. Home Depot and Lowe's sell connectors and cable in bulk. Also check electronic supply houses.
A good place to order from is www.blackbox.com I've used them for over 20 years. http://yoda.uvi.edu/InfoTech/rj45.htm shows standards in case you don't know how to position the wires within the connector. Chas
