Question

Hello

I have a home peer to peer network at home (3 systems together all with 10 base T cable, a Network Hub & NIC Cards) With all drives maped. I have always asked the question only if there is/was a way to dial into my system via a modem from another computer. I found the answer with Windows Dial up server in dial up networking located in the conections menu. I have this setup now. My question is what program-proto call do I use from the remote system to dial into with ? Is it Hyper Terminal ? Or do I set up a new connection useing dial up networking? Or do I use a program like Procomm or Qmodem etc ?

Thanks Jim Horak

Dialup Networking.

I prefer PCAnywhere for this kind of work because it allows you to actually control the desktop of the machine that you have dialed in to. All the Dialup Server will let you do is see the machine in Network Neighborhood and map drives.

PCAnywhere is remote control software sold by Symantec.

Again, if you are using Dialup Server, you dial into it with Dialup Networking, just like you would dial into an ISP.

Network Neighborhood.

Both computers have to be on the same workgroup and the host computer has to have shared drives - just like a peer to peer LAN.

Network Neighborhood! That is the ONLY way to browse the network - and if you are dialing in with a modem, it's gonna be SLOW.

The system that you are using to dial in with has to be on the SAME workgroup as the LAN you are calling in to.

Whatever protocol you are using on the LAN cards has to be bound to the Dialup Adapter on the remote computer, and enabled in the DUN connection you are using.

Bottom line - you set it up and use it EXACTLY like you were setting this machine up on the LAN except you are using the Dialup Adapter instead of a NIC.
