Ping time outs!
Hi, just a quickie
I have networked two computers at work with a hub and when I ping each of them it replies a few times then times out a couple then replies again. Both cards are US Robotics and I have tested the cable with a laptop and it works fine. Any thoughts as to what is causing this? Cheers Vic p.s. Both computers show up on the network but are very slow which I assume is caused by the frequent time outs. Last edited by Speedy; 02-13-2003 at 03:22 AM. |

jeresimo - everything was installed correctly (as you will soon see).
I eventually gave in and called a techie friend round to help - he brought his laptop (linux) and it all worked ok. So we did a Sherlock and went through every possibility. Elementary my Dear Watson that it was the cable!!! Now don't quote me on this but it was just over 17m so it needed to have a twist (cross??) in it for noise (or something of that nature). Windows kept crashing and really didnt like the interuptions but linux didn't bat-an-eyelid at it. Just goes to show - There is no such thing as sound proof windows!! (ok ok - I'll get my coat.) Thanks for everything though and take care. Vic |
