9x to NT networking

hi,

normally I wouldn't bother w/ all this because I can just get on a 2k machine and transfer from it, but I'm doing some work for my aunt and it would be much better if it wasn't so one sided...

I'm using my machines for testing and I'm not coming up w/ vary good results. It's been suggested on various websites to make sure the following protocols, services, etc are installed:

Microsoft Networking
TCP/IP
IPX/SPX
NetBeui
Print Sharing

or their equivalent on NT or 9x, plus the right file access and sharing on the NT machine

oh, and it was also suggested that the login's be the same (and same password) on both machines-- done that

It's still as one sided as ever, only worse-- my laptop just stopped recognizing the network all together. I still have access from the 2k computer though.

anyways, any help would be appreciated

I gather you are try to setup a network that will have NT computers and possibly 98 ones as well as at least one running 2000.
What hardware do you have? What problems are you having? Are any of the comuters recognizing each other?

alright,

the test system (just 2 PC's) that I'm running right now is fairly similar to what my aunt will have:

1 PC w/ windows 95: just an old 133 laptop

1 PC w/ Win2k: 500mhz desktop

I'm assuming connectivity is fine in the hardware because I can go through network neighborhood and the whole bit on the 2k machine

she'll have 2 desktops, one w/ 98 and the other w/ XP

Like I said earlier in the post-- I can go through Network Neighborhood and access shares on from the 2k machine onto the 95 machine, but not vis versa. I'd just assumed I didn't have some software settings/protocols/etc configured right.

the protocols and services installed are outlined in the previous post

I"m not sure what else I could've done/not done-- the laptop quit even recognizing the network (it used to see itself in the workgroup and nothing else).

confused?

thanx

Nate
