Unhappy ASUS A7N266-VM onboard LAN not working.

I am trying to do a simple LAN between the new Asus build and my old gateway.I've installed the TCP/IP for dial-up on both machines. Both are running 98SE. I ping the sharing computer,OK.I ping the ISP,OK.I ping the client computer, request timed out.I ping the host computer from the client, request timed out.The NIC on the client computer has the 2 green lights on.The green light on the onboard LAN is not on, but the yellow one is.I had a CAT5 crossover made at the computer shop and it was tested there.Do I have to enable the onboard LAN somehow? There is nothing in the manual about the onboard LAN, and I don't see anything in the BIOS.I tried to get some info from Asus, but couldn't find anything pertaining to the A7N266-VM onboard LAN.All suggestions are appreciated.I've been screwing around with this since 5AM and it's getting me a little hot.

There has to be something in the bios to enable/disable the onboard lan - but your problem may be you haven't installed all the 98 drivers for that motherboard, the board really works better with Win2000 and XP. Does the lan device show in device manager?

Thank's for the reply GLC.I found out the LAN is fine, the problem was human error, all though some say i'm not human.I configued the wrong adapter for TCP/IP on the client machine. All is good now.I still don't know why that linksys adapter is on that machine,it's for a USB adapter.Do you really think I should upgrade to XP,I'm a 98 kind of guy. Most of my friends have XP but wish they still had 98.I still cannot find anything in the BIOS or the manual refering to the onboard LAN though. Thanks again though for the reply.

If 98 is working fine for you, no need to upgrade. I personally prefer Win2000.
