Networking two computers
I am tring to Network two computers together and I have been listening to you guys and I've learned a lot. I have two NETGEAR FA311-10/100 ETHERNET CARD and two 7 Ft. RJ-45 Snagless CAT-5e Patch Cables. I purchased a Netgear DS104 Hub, thinking that I wanted a Netgear RM356 Router but they are expensive. So, like I said earlier I've been listening and I heard something about Windows ICS/ Network or something like that and use a crossover cable and you should be able to have two computers on the internet at the same time. Correct. And if so, and with my equipment, what kind of crossover cable would I need?

Network crossover cable
I just purchased a cat5 Crossover Network Cable. That was the cable I needed, Thanks.

if you have a crossover cable, you can ditch the hub. in the case of only 2 PCs you can plug the cat5 crossover into each nic card. if you want to use the hub, you cant use a crossover.
if its onyl 2 PCs and you dont plan on having more, you dont need the hub ask if that doesnt make sence aol AIM : wizdawg2 |

This makes total sense. I just started purchasing equipment before I really knew what was going on. I know that you don't need a hub w/the crossover, but I figure when I get my router it will come in handy. I haven't even though of getting one yet they are to expensive, right now. I just got in the mail Windows NT, my girl thought that might help. And for 5.50 for the license alone is wearth that.
I can't get Windows NT to see the Netgear PCI adapter FA311, is this normal? It already has a but-load of adapters in it now. If someone could help? Thanks Packets |

If you want to save farther, borrow from a friend a Crimper and buy one RJ45 plug and convert your patch cable to Crossover cable by cutting the other end of your existing cable then replace the plug to make it a crossover cable.
