win xp internet connection share problems
I got a 2nd computer up and running and wanted to give it access to the internet w/o spending much money. So i put a 2nd net card in my parents dell 8550 (intel PRO/100+ Dual Port Server adapter =D ) and bought a cross over cable. I put the computers side by side and connected the cable to one of the 2 ports on the dell and then to the 2nd computer. now i ran the network setup wizard and enabled connection sharing or whatever and made sure they were in the same workgroup. I can share files between the 2 computers just fine and they see each other. Then when i went to enable the connection sharing, i selected the connection the represented the link between the 2 computers, right clicked and went to properties- advanced, and selected the box that said Enable connection sharing with users on my network. then it gives the hourglass and pops up this error:
An error occured while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. The Dependency service or group failed to start. The dell is running on XP home and the 2nd computer is running on xp Pro. |

Did you reboot the dell and try again? If yes then you need to take a look to the people that made the problem. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;329441
and I also came across another post on another board when I did a google search and it had a lot of tips. http://www.modemhelp.net/vblite/show...?threadid=1279 |

No, you don't share the link between the 2 computers, you share the broadband connection TO that one.
