Unhappy only one pc on lan connected to net

As most of you already know, I built a computer about two days ago and It's running fine, but, I've yet to setup my LAN. The two computers are not recognizing each other on the network. I've bought the router, CAT 5 cables and the NIC's. I installed everything but I still can't get my LAN to work, the only computer which has access to the internet right now is the one that already had it; the one I built is the one without it. My friend had the same problems as well and we are both running XP PRO.

Any Suggestions?

Did you make sure you have the other computer setup correctly in your network connections window? Try that if you havent to make sure you are using the right selection. Let me know what happens.

All the software loaded correctly? And the setup for the NIC configured right?
