My wife recently purchased a Dell Lattitude X200 notebook computer. I would like to connect the new notebook to my DSL line. Presently, I have my desktop PC connected to the DSL line (non-wireless). The operating system is Windows XP.
Our service provider is Bell South (Atlanta area). I have a SMC 2404WBR wireless router (SMC Networks), and an ActionTec 11Mbps wireless PCI card ready to be installed. Can anyone tell me the correct procdure for getting on the Internet, via my DSL line, and sending / receiving e-mail usng Outlook Express ??? Do I install the software for the PCI card first, then the PCI card ??? Then install the wireless router software ? Then install the Bell South DSL software ? In short, what is the correct software and hardware installation sequence ??? All I want to do is to be able to connect to the Internet via a wireless connection, browse the net, and send / receive e-mail messages. I already have an e-mail address. I have spoken to Bell South about this, and they told me that "they don't support wireless connections associated with my DSL" !!!!! Please help !!! |

do you mean a PCMCIA for the laptop?
since it is win XP, you should only have to plug in the card, turn on the laptop, install the drivers. Then goto network connections in the control panel, right click on the wireless icon, view available networks and connect to your access point(router). You should not need extra network software other then the drivers for the card. |
