Thumbs up

Well, I finally gritted my teeth and installed a wireless network at the house. Ordered an ORiNOCO RG-1000 access point kit (that comes with an ORiNOCO Silver Card). Bought a low-dollar NIC and a cross-over cable.

Put the NIC in my tower machine (Win2K Server), installed the driver, ran the crossover to the RJ-45 jack in the RG-1000, and fired 'er up.

Put the Silver card in one of the craptops (also Win2K Server), installed the (new) driver and the access point client app.

Did lotsa reading here, at homepclan, and practicallynetworked (they have a decent tips page for the RG).

Only protocol I'm using is TCP/IP. And with a little tweaking, and a lotta cussing, got the little nitwit running. Now I can work on project plans, architectures, and c/s experiments from my craptop out in the sunroom, the back deck, or out in the yard.

Nice.

Forgot to mention in the original post....

Got a BIG boost from analogx. Downloaded his proxy. Took about a minute to configure it and it works like a charm. This guy does GOOD stuff!!
