I have one computer that is serving a cable connection using ics, and it's running win98SE(*duh). Anyway its suspose to be servering to two other computers, one of them a 400 k6-2, 128 megs of pc100(Win98SE also) and that one works fine, but my pentium166mmx, 40 ram(original win98) is not ble to surf the web, i have all the same protocols on each computer, and on the serving computer it always says "3" computers are sharing the net, while my pentium166 is trying to load a page. But it never loads a page, it just comes up with the IE display, (cannot display page). I have all the same setting as i do for my amdk6-400 but to no avail. Does anyone know anything more that i have to do to this machine? I figure since my 400 is working fine with minimal configuration, (Disable DNS, DHCP for WINS, and obtain TCP/IP address automatically) HELP!!?!?!?!

If I remember correct, Win98 FE does not have ICS as part of the package. Dis you when install the ICS, they offers you to make a ICS client floppy, if it does then put that in floppy drive of a P166 and click on ICS client file. It'll auto config for your Internet to access via network connection.

Next, use Windows Explorer( file Manager or whatever you feel comfortable) goto Program Files\Internet Explorer\ Connection Wizard\ then ckick on Inetwiz. Run thru the setup. Make sure on the SE, you check share on Internet Explorer\Connections section. I never have problem with ICS. Most times, Usually install and config incorrect.

Yes
Yes all of the Network cards are the same, they are Linksys, 10/100 auto. But I think i figured it out, the computer that cant connect, (166) dials into a mail server for my job. I think that since this requires the TCP/IP properties to be configured exclusively for that, I cant do both on that machine, do you think their is anyway to do both, my work does not have a vpn.

Well I wouldn't know of any other way...if you had 2 NIC's in that computer you could use one's TCP/IP properties for your mail server the other for internet. Other than that...your mail server only uses TCP/IP? You can't connect to it any other way? HTH

ok heres the deal, the pentium 166 was connecting to the mail server through dial-up. But when this dial-up was installed, they also installed some proxy software. SO every time I tried to access a site through RoadRunner(Cable Internet) on my LAN it would send the request through the proxy even though i was disconnected, so i went to control panel and disabled the proxy. But then I figured, well what if my dad wants to check his email AND surf the web at cable internet speeds all at the same time!!!! So i went to dial-up networking and went to the properties of the mail server dial-up connection. Then i wwent to the server types tb at the top, then i clicked on TCP/IP Settings... then I UNCHECKED use default gateway on remote network. NOW all the dial up will be used for is microsoft outlook, and he can check his email and surf at blazingly fast speeds at the same time, and i just thought the computer was slow!!! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
