connection speed

I have a Intel 536EP V. 92 Modem and I am running XP home... I connect at different speeds from 44.0 to 26.4 Kbs...
Is there any way to always connect at 44.0 Kbs?? I have the drivers that came with the modem and I believe they are the newest... but when I first installed the modem, I always connected at 44.. but recently I have been connecting at 26.4 Kbs... Its annoying that somtimes I can download at 4 to 5 K a second and other times download at 2 to 3 k... Yea it doesn't seem that big of a deal but on a big file... that is a difference of a couple hours.. I know I should get DSL or cable.. but where I live they don't provide it
thanks

Does your ISP support V.92?
Have you had the phone lines checked?

Anyhow, if you want to connect at 44k every time, and only at 44k, that's easy, but data may not flow, or it will disconnect if the phone line cannot support the speed.
To connect ONLY at 44k, put this in the extra settings box of Advanced modem properties via device mangler:
+MS=V90,0,,,44000,44000

Jim's point is that there are a lot of reasons your modem doesn't always connect at 44k. The most important reasons have to do with your ISP and your telephone line. Just set up your modem to take the fastest connection available.
