Question

Hello,

I recently got a parallel laplink cable to connect 2 PCs via LPT. A friend of mine visited me today, he saw the DCC I used and he liked it.
Now the following:
He has at home his own PC, and his mother has another, but in the living room, while my friend's PC is in his room.
But he liked the DCC, and he likes to connect the two PCs via LPT because it's not expensive as buying two network cards and it's only used to transfer data.
But parallel cable can only be max. 5m (as I know).
The two PCs are about 12m.

Now is there a possibility (maybe a signal amplifier) to connect both over that distance via LPT and how expensive would it be ?

I think there is some hardware to accomplish what you want to do, but with the increased cost, he would be better off buying a couple Startech NIC's (Very inexpensive, but I've never had a problem with one) and a crossover cable.

Yeah, i think that kinda equipment would be more then some simple nics, and a crossover cable. you can get nics for about $10-$15 each, then maybe $5 for a cable.

Thanks for the replies.
So there's no cheap way to connect them with LPT on that distance
OK, that's all he wanted to know. I'll tell him.
Thanks.
