I got an ibm computer, hooked to network printer(novell),
sometimes I go to use it. I find that the printer is in "off line status" I have the darnest time getting it back on line. Any suggestions, shortcuts, or things to look for. |

Exactly how is this set up? Is the printer on a print server, connected directly to the NetWare server, or shared off another workstation?
What version of NetWare? If it's NetWare 5.x, does it use NDPS or is it queue-based? What operating system is on your IBM PC? |

1. Are you using Novell's client (most people refer to it as "Client 32") or are you using Microsoft's NetWare client?
2. What version of NetWare is it? 3. If the NetWare version is 5.0 or 5.1, does it use NDPS or is it queue-based? 4. What kind of print server? (ie: HP JetDirect) 5. What protocol(s) are you running? What it sounds like is that your print server is losing connection to the server. I can't give you specifics on what to look for until I know the above info. Of course, you could start w/ some basics like making sure your frame types match and are explicitly configured (don't use "AUTO") as well as configuring duplex settings explicitly (again... don't use "AUTO"). |

client 32. & using hp jetdirect print server.
Yes it's losing connection, but why this one. I have 8 other computers working fine. Little back ground I am in a school with two server and over 150 computers. My class have approx. 12 computers on the client 32 networking using hp jet direct print server. I hope this my add some light. |

If it's only ONE computer having the problem, I would suggest looking at the things I spoke about in my last answer (you'd be surprised at how explicitly configuring the frame type on the PC will alleviate connectivity issues). Additionally, you could download and install the latest client from Novell, then reinstall the printer from Control Panel/Printers.
I'd really need to know the answers to my previous questions in order to formulate a more "specific" answer. (ie: NetWare version, protocols on the server and workstation, etc) |
