hehe sorry for not much help, but I'm sure you will find greats deals there on Cable Modems. Not sure what brands are good though.

cable modem is usally supplyed by the cable co, and is included it the fees, I still bought the linksys cable modem for a spare and had the cable co record the mac address so that I can switch to it anytime I wanted

it matches my router and 8 port switch so nicely too

When my Netgear died (support stinks) I bought a Motorola Surfboard at Best Buy for $80 with a $20 rebate. Been working for a month without a burp!

edit: just checked newegg, googlegear, amazon, best buy and circuit city. The deal I got is still on thru Sep and is the best price out there right now.

I bought a Motorola Surfboard at Circuit City. Cost $100 and came with 2 $50 rebates. I think the rebates may depend on where you live and what cable company you have.

gbirke, did you sign up for cable service at the same time? That's usually how they offer the modem for "free". Best Buy has another $60 rebate on my modem, too. But only if you sign up as a new cable account. I already have Comcast Broadband, so didn't qualify. If you aren't sure, read the fine print!
