Broadband Modem Problems

Hi,
I just registered for BB, but having trouble installing modem.
Tried many times to install, but it kept crashing PC always at same point.
I got in touch with ISP I bought off and they told me it was the modem that was faulty, so after I exchanged it tried to install a couple more times same result.
Then finally I managed it but it dont seem to be right, for one my CPU is always 95% and above when modem is connected, windows wont shut down when modem is connected(as soon as I unplug modem, it shuts down. If I plug modem in again it dont reboot until I unplug it again)
ISP now says its probally power management problem and I should update drivers for USB.
What I'm wanting to know (apart from any extra advice) is,
If it is a power management problem how would I correct it?
and how would I go about updating driver for USB (would I have to update BIOS)?

Cool

I don have any experience with connection using USB, but if your modem has a ethernet connection do yourself a favor and get a ethernet card for your PC for $10.00, a straight thru CAT5 cable and go that route.

My ISP provides me with a Terratec cable modem that connects either by way of USB or Ethernet.

I have never had a problem with the USB connection, however, I do know people that do. Having switched over to the ethernet connection their problems were resolved.

On my 600k service it makes no difference as far as I can tell.

Using various speed checks I average 560k, which is fine by me.

Either is faster than your cable or DSL provider.
