actiontec modem

Hello all, Well I finally got fed up with my new ISP after 3 months (losing and not sending Email) or lost in cyber space somewhere.
So I thought I would change to a ISP that I heard good things about.WRONG.......
I have an Actiontec callwaiting PCI modem, which worked fine with every ISP I have had.Its about 3 yrs old and its served me well its a hard modem and the auto disconnect is a nice feature.

PROBLEM It seems that my new ISP isnt communicating with my modem very well. When I disconnect it takes an unuseually long time and then locks up my computer ,I mean cntrl/alt/del doesnt even work. I have downloaded the latest driver to no avail.
I have checked the log in sett/conpan/modem and this is what it says Hanging up modem
Hardware hang up by lowering the DTR
Warning :After lowering the DTR to hang up the modem did not drop the CD within 10 secs.

I can't remember the modem experts name (CRAFT) but if any one can help me Please.

I know the modem is good its got to do with the new ISP .They told me on a connextant modem they have to add a string, but no info on Actiontec . Perhaps V90 / V92 issue.
I used a soft modem and no problems. The actiontec modem is a hard modem

Thanks All

AL

You may look at the Chips in the Modem and see what kind of chipset it uses. Sometimes the maker of the Chip also has generic modem drivers that will work.

It has Lucent chips .There is nothing wrong with the drivers....The problem lies within the ISP, and communicating with my modem. The modem is fine on another ISP...

Me?............

In the extra settings box of advanced modem properties, via device mangler, put this: &D3

You may not see that when querying the modem, not to worry. If the line is still there, and the problem persists, you might ask the ISP about their disconnect sequence. Unfortunately, if the signal is strong enough, lowering DTR may not be enough to hang it up, and you may have to manually "End Task" on rnaapp.
If you're not using the call waiting feature, in the extra settings box, put S10=1 and take out the &D3
See if that helps.
You may also have better luck with a different country code.
Try these:
Canada: at%T19,0,1
Japan: at%T19,0,10
United States: at%T19,0,19
The only other thing you might do, is to purchase a different modem, although you could also have the telco check the lines.

To end task, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, highlight rnaapp, and hit End Task. That will hang up the modem for sure.
If you're still using the call answering function of the modem, then S10=1 will disable that, but it may cure the problem.

It could be running as a service, not an app, and may be hidden. I'm at a loss now, because every modem should just hang up when DTR drops below a certain point. There doesn't seem to be any commands to get the modem to disconnect at any given DTR loss, although I have a couple of other suggestions.
Try S30=1
This will cause the modem to hang up, when there's no data transfer for one minute. You can set the number to anything between 0 (default) and 255 minutes. If you set it to 6, and then have your email program check mail every 5, when you want to disconnect, the DTR will drop, and 6 minutes later it will actually hang up. Not ideal, but it may work.

Y1 This will disconnect if a long space is recieved from the server. Might help with the lower DTR, worth a try.

&C1 This should hang up the modem when the remote carrier is dropped. Not perfect, but it may also work.

&D2 or &D3 Try each. They should hang up the modem when DTR is lowered below a certain level.

Theoretically, these commands, or some of them, should be in the default init string, however, something may have changed one of them, or disabled something.
In the extra settings box, try this:
&F0&C1&D2Y1
You can try the S30 addition too, if you don't have any success with anything else.
