Network woes

OK, so I had a network using a netgear ds104 hub and I had verizon online DSL. I had 2 computers, xbox live, and ps2 online connected. Now my computer is in the same room as the modem as well as the xbox and ps2. Since the other computer is in another room I made myself an ethernet cable long enough to reach. I noticed that the speed of the other computer was horrible. Everything else worked fine. I read somewhere that hubs don't handle traffic very well so I just waited until I got cable and a router. I just got the new network going but I still have a problem with the other computer. I did a speed test and the upload rate passed with flying colors but the download rate was less than 1k/s. Can someone tell me what the problem may be?

BTW the main computer is using WinXP Pro Corp, the other winXP home. I'm using a dlink DI-604 router and I have optimum online service.

If your other computer has Anti Virus progy, try uninstaling it and check if the DL speed imporves. If so, get AVG 6 it is free and effective. Then scan for any spywares running on the background an AdAware Utilities will be fine for this. HTH

Remake the cable or buy one premade, you probably have miswired it or have a bad crimp. Make sure the run is not near any source of interference such as fluorescent lights.

Hey, Im a problem with my norton antivirus software not coming on on the computer which I have hard wired to my wireless router. It runs fine on my other desktop which is part of the network. Dont mean to change the post, but it kind of ties in with what you were talking about.

I just remade the wire. It's a great improvement but still not what it should be.
