2 IPs over cable

I have a linksys router with a 4 port switch. I am on cable. I want two IP address so that when me and my friend play games online it doesn't think we are the same person. Can I do this?

Thanks
Ben

If your ISP provides multiple IP's, and you get a hub, not a router, or purchase two cable modems.

So is there any way me and a friend can play the same game together against other people sharing our cable connection.

Cool

The router will assign seperate IP addresses to each PC so game playing shouldn't be a problem.

Actually, since you can only forward a specific port to one IP address on your private LAN, game playing will be a problem.

you should be ok... i play with 4 computers all hooked up to one router all sharing one internet account. I haven't done it with poker, but with many, many other games.... and have never had a problem.

In this case, you will need to buy a second IP address from the ISP and use a hub or switch, not a router.

See what I mean about learning??

I was ready to argue with gunnerjohn but thought I would try it first and I'll be darned if ya can't forward a port to more than one IP!!

Whoda thunk it. LOL

I hope you two win enough money to justify the expense of a second IP and the switch.
