Mini PCI wifi card

I have a laptop with 2 PCIMIA ports. One of them is for my dlink card and the other is supposed to be for my FireWire ports. They don't fit in there at the same time which sucks becuase I received a firewire netcam. But it does havea port for a mini pci card. Has anybody tried one or heard anything about performance and speed??

Thanks

Mini PCI card

They do exist, i know Cisco has them made for them and they are put in IBM, HP,& Toshiba laptops. Unfortunately, they are OEM cards and I have not seen any of them floating around (altho there probably other manufacturers who do make them). You may want to contact the manufacturer of you laptop and see if they offer the card as a retrofit (IBM does that for specific models), the issue with buying one from someone else is that the OEM of your notebook might make changes to the card or implement it in a strange way and that might be an issue.

I have one in my new T40, which the IT department is imagining for me and I can give you a definitive answer on performance in a couple of days or so (if they don't screw up this time)

I recently was thinking along the same lines as you. I found a MSI Mini-PCI 802.11b NIC from newegg.com for a total of $25 ($20 + 5 for shipping). I previously had a V.90 modem in my mini-PCI slot, but instead will be using my cell phone (which attaches via USB) for any mobile dialing, so I figured I'd give the MP11B a shot.

Come to find out, the MP11B is too long to fit in the MINI-PCI slot of my IBM Thinkipad 390e. It's the correct format (miniPCI IIIa) but is physically too long from connector to base to fit into my laptop.

If you are interested I can measure my card and you can see if it will fit in the MINI PCI slot on the bottom of your laptop.
