Virus and Slow Internet Connection
Newbie here.
I have a co-worker whose laptop(OS=Win 2000) was infected with w32.randex.c virus. I've deleted all the files associated with this bug including the registry files. After several AV scans with no sign of any other bugs present, her laptop(internet connections) is still running really slow. We have a dsl connection, but her internet pages load up as if it were on dial-up. Does anyone have clue of what I can do to fix this problem? I've already tried un-installing and re-installing the NIC driver for her machine. Thanks for any help in advance. |

try running adaware, spybot, swat it to check for more infection. you may want to try getting to a restore point before she got the virus. I'd also try re-installing IE.
If all else fails, the last resort would be to reformat and re-install the OS.

OK, i've ran spybot and swat it, and nothing came up. I was thinking that it might be a program running in the background since the internet speed is fine when in safe mode, but when booted up regularly it slows to a crawl. I've also checked all the system processes and they all seem to check out.
Any other suggestions???? |

When it slows to a crawl, hit ctrl-alt-del and go into Task Manager, look on the Processes tab, and see which process is hogging all the CPU time.
