Wireless internet

Being stuck out here in the boonies with no cable nor dsl the best i can get on dialup is 28800 and usually 24000. I hear that wireless Sat. internet can be slow but how would it compare to what I have. I know it will cost quite a bit more but while cost is a consideration it is not the bottom line here. What do you think?

I would take Satellite broadband over dial-up anytime, while it may not be as fast as dsl, it's definitely faster than your dial-up.

The only advantage satellite has over dialup is faster downloads. Uploads are no faster than with dialup, and there is bad lag with everything. Gaming with satellite is just not feasible because of the lag.

Look around and see if there are any companies offering local fixed tower-based wireless (like the old Sprint Broadband Direct) in your area. This is an excellent solution.

glc.
Thanks for that information. I'll try to find out about such a thing. I knew sat. was not cable/dsl but didn't think I had any other option. The lag would be a problem for some things I like to do. If the tower system isn't available I think I'll just whine at my phone company till they can get me DSL.
